Sustainable Development
Sustainable Development provides a comprehensive understanding of how societies can meet present needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own. This course examines the interconnections between economic growth, social equity, and environmental integrity, exploring frameworks such as the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the concept of the “triple bottom line.” Students will learn how governments, businesses, civil society, and international organizations collaborate—often with varying interests and challenges—to foster well-being while preserving the planet’s natural systems.
Throughout the course, learners will investigate policies, planning tools, market-based mechanisms, and community-driven initiatives that promote sustainability at local, national, and global scales. They will analyze case studies that highlight both success stories and persistent obstacles, developing the ability to critically evaluate development projects, assess trade-offs, and design strategies that harmonize ecological health, social justice, and economic prosperity. By the end, students will be prepared to engage constructively in policymaking, innovation, and advocacy, contributing to a more balanced, just, and enduring future.
