Environmental Policy and Law
Environmental Policy and Law examines the frameworks that govern the protection, management, and sustainable use of natural resources. This course introduces students to the foundational principles and historical context of environmental regulations, international treaties, and policy-making processes. By understanding how environmental laws evolve and how various stakeholders—governments, industries, communities, and non-governmental organizations—interact, students will gain the ability to interpret legal documents, follow policy developments, and critically assess the effectiveness of environmental regulations in practice.
Through the analysis of landmark environmental cases, domestic and international agreements, and debates surrounding emerging policy issues, learners will develop the skills needed to engage with legal texts, assess compliance mechanisms, and appreciate the delicate balance between economic development and ecological integrity. Students will also examine how environmental justice and ethical considerations influence policy decisions, ensuring that conservation efforts, sustainability initiatives, and resource management strategies fairly represent the interests of both present and future generations.
